New computer-trackpadery love.

I knew it was going to happen sometime. Ever since I started using my MacBook Pro’s trackpad a whole lot more while mobile, every time I went to use my mouse at my desktop the experience was almost annoying. I blame the surface resistance of my desk which was probably not the best to begin with. Don’t worry, my MX Revolution has a home: a trackpad could never be used for FPS.

Now I’m spoiled. The glass of the Magic Trackpad is beyond smooth and, by comparison, my first gen MacBook Pro without a glass touchpad feels sticky and inadequate. Bugger.

At first, the gentleness with which you touch the surface is almost annoying and stress inducing but, I’m now two days in and am starting to enjoy it. I previously used hot corners for Exposé but have since disabled them so I can train myself to use four finger gestures [yeah... MacBook Pro 1,1 with a Core Duo... no Lion yet].

So far, I’m happy and am flying through web pages and windows like I always dreamt I would but I think I’m still deciding whether or not I could live without it. Perhaps in a month I’ll deprive myself and see what I really think. I’m thinking it will be like Apple keyboards which are all spaced exactly the same and all feel like home… anything else just freaks me out.

Spent some time poking the interwebs for some new musics and decided Minuit was a good place to settle. I’ve actually been so into what I’ve heard on Bandcamp that I’m even listening to the remix albums… something that rarely comes with positive results but these aren’t bad!

Take the time to poke at their website. It’s… unique.

I have a feeling that what prevents me from posting to this blog as often as I would like is the fact that I have tried to intermingle personal and professional in one place… and it might not be working.

So, here’s to ditching the “professional” on this blog and to coming up with another domain for the business side of things.

Yeah… just changed this blog’s theme with a few hours of poking around. It’s based off of H5 by Jeff Starr which is one of my normal framework themes, as of late.

I’ll probably change some stuff but, I think it was a decent challenge which actually worked out!

Post Comic-Con videogame spree/PSP!

After seeing how engrained into videogame culture FF:VII was at Comic-Con, I became determined to get myself out of the dark and get more than a few hours in. FF:VII and I have never been serious: we live a relationship of abandoned saves and repeated cluelessness from jumping into those saves from years ago. I decided it was time to feel the love. Found my “Greatest Hits” discs from storage and started playing with ePSXe on a P4/Radeon 9600 I threw together. After several late night sittings, I was suddenly 25 hours in and blown away.

No. I needed to get more serious. There were other games to be experienced after this… Crisis Core would be calling to me. I would have to rewatch Advent Children with the knowledge of the game’s entirety. I would dust off the PS2 and struggle through Dirge of Cerberus.

I decided to go the route of the PSP when I discovered that, with some persuasion, PS1 games run flawlessly and it would make my new love portable. Being myself, nothing would do except a broken PSP which was easily found from a friend of a friend. After hacking together a charger from an old bluetooth headset charger, I began looking into custom firmwares and simultaneously ripping any PS1 game I could find.

Messed with all sorts of goodies and even made menus from some images.

With some plugin help, I was able to move my ePSXe memory card to the PSP and load it up. I’m certain when all this is finished with, I’ll have another writeup… back to the game.
